Air Algerie is a state-owned company operating as a full-service carrier. Its fleet includes Airbus A330-200 and A330-900neo aircraft on long-haul routes, Boeing 737 variants on medium-haul routes, and ATR turboprops for domestic connections.

How to book Air Algerie flights

There are three main ways to book a ticket.

Direct booking on airalgerie.dz is the most straightforward option. Select your departure and arrival airports, choose your travel dates, pick your cabin class and enter the number of passengers (up to 9 per booking). The site offers both fixed-date search and flexible-date search to compare prices across nearby dates. Payment accepts Visa, Mastercard and Maestro for international cards, and CIB and Edahabia for Algerian cardholders. Bookings close 5 hours before departure, according to the site’s FAQ verified on 20 May 2026.

Travel agents can also issue Air Algerie tickets. The airline maintains a network of physical agencies in France, Algeria and other countries - locations are listed on airalgerie.dz.

Comparison and booking via algeria-airline.com uses the TravelPayouts widget, which aggregates Air Algerie fares alongside other carriers on the same routes. This makes it easy to compare prices without switching between sites.

Main routes: Europe, Middle East and Americas

Air Algerie’s network focuses on connecting Algeria with the European diaspora cities, regional Middle East hubs and a handful of intercontinental routes.

Europe routes

The busiest corridors are between France and Algeria:

  • Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - Algiers (ALG): multiple daily flights, the flagship route
  • Marseille (MRS) - Algiers (ALG): high-frequency service, strong demand from southern France
  • Lyon (LYS) - Oran (ORN): direct service serving western Algeria
  • Paris (CDG) - Constantine (CZL): northeast Algeria connection
  • Lille (LIL) - Algiers (ALG): north France service

Beyond France, Air Algerie connects Algiers to London, Frankfurt, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam and other European cities. The exact frequency and schedule for each route varies by season - peak demand runs July to August and around Ramadan.

Middle East routes

  • Algiers (ALG) - Istanbul (SAW/IST): a busy connection with volumes estimated at around 2,400 searches/month in France (keyword-plan DFS 2026-05-19)
  • Algiers (ALG) - Dubai (DXB)
  • Algiers (ALG) - Cairo
  • Algiers (ALG) - Tunis

Istanbul is particularly popular as both a final destination and a transit point.

Americas routes

  • Algiers (ALG) - Montreal (YUL): inaugurated in 2007, this route serves the Algerian community in Canada. It is one of Air Algerie’s few transatlantic services.
  • Algiers (ALG) - Beijing (PEK): long-haul connection launched in 2009.

For details on the Montreal route, see the Algiers-Montreal flight guide.

Fare classes: Economy, Light and Business

Air Algerie offers three cabin classes on most routes, according to airalgerie.dz at 20 May 2026. Understanding the differences before booking can save money or frustration.

ClassCabin bagChecked bagMeal serviceLounge access
Economy10 kg (5 kg on ATR)Included (allowance on ticket)Snacks and drinksNo
Economy - Light fare10 kg (5 kg on ATR)Not includedSnacks and drinksNo
Business10 kgIncludedHot meal, menu choiceYes (Algiers)
First10 kgIncludedPremium serviceYes (Algiers)

The Light fare is a sub-type within Economy class. It is sold at a lower base price but does not include checked baggage. If you plan to travel with a suitcase in the hold, you will need to pay an excess baggage fee on top - this often cancels out the initial saving, particularly for family travel with heavy luggage. The Light fare is also excluded from certain Air Algerie Plus loyalty benefits (Chelia and Tahat tier baggage bonuses do not apply).

Business class includes a hot meal with menu choice, priority boarding and access to the Air Algerie lounge at Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport on departing flights. On long-haul routes such as Algiers-Montreal, the Business cabin provides a meaningfully different experience from Economy.

First class offers premium seating at the front of the aircraft and an elevated service standard. Available on select aircraft types.

Cabin bag allowance is 10 kg maximum across all classes, reduced to 5 kg on ATR turboprop aircraft operating domestic routes. The checked baggage allowance depends on your specific fare and itinerary - the exact figure appears on your ticket.

Visa requirements

Most international travelers to Algeria require a visa in advance. The requirements vary significantly by nationality and purpose of travel.

Citizens of several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and most EU countries need to apply for a visa before arrival. The process typically involves submitting an application to the Algerian embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Processing times and required documents vary.

For the latest visa requirements specific to your nationality, check the Algeria visa and entry requirements guide - requirements change and the official source is always the Algerian consular authority in your country.

Airport information

All long-haul and most international Air Algerie flights operate from Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers (IATA: ALG), described on airalgerie.dz as “the largest airport in Algeria.” The airport is located approximately 20 km east of Algiers city center.

For a full guide to the airport including transport, terminals and facilities, see the Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport guide.

Secondary Algerian airports served by international routes include Oran Es Senia (ORN), Constantine Mohamed Boudiaf (CZL), Annaba Rabah Bitat (AAE) and Bejaia Soummam (BJA).
